CDP Class of 2006 – 2009
Penn State University
B.S. Information Sciences and Technology
Working collaboratively on business solutions is an important part of my job. I’m in the back , wearing the dark shirt.
My co-op assignment experience sold me on Air Products. I was amazed by the level of responsibility I was given. And the work was something I could see myself enjoying.
In my first CDP assignment, I was on the team assigned to migrate to SharePoint® Server 2007. It was my job to train individuals who would migrate existing information. But before we could do that, we first needed to meet with end-users to better understand their needs.
For my next assignment, I took the advice of my mentor and accepted a rotation outside of IT. I worked on long-range forecasting of product sales and revenues for the Electronics segment. It was definitely a step outside of my comfort zone. But the experience was interesting; it made me want to find a position in IT that was more closely associated to a business segment.
Currently, I support IT project managers who are leading efforts to create or modify IT solutions. It’s my job to document the project life cycle: creating, maintaining, updating documentation and process information. I enjoy the work, and can see myself spending a few more years in a role like this. The job is also helping me to learn more about the businesses and prepare me for a future role in which I have more direct involvement with business leaders.
