CDP Class of 1997 – 1999
Penn State University
B.S. Management Science and Info Systems
I’m standing in the back, wearing the dark blue shirt. This Penn State alumni photo was taken at Air Products; we all work in Global IT.
I joined Air Products because of the CDP Program. At that point, Air Products was one of the few companies that offered a career development program for IT majors.
My first assignment was on the Year 2000 project team. It was our job to ensure user-created spreadsheets, databases and other applications would still work correctly once the year rolled from 1999 to 2000.
My second assignment was a new role, created for me. I led the strategic planning and budgeting effort for company’s Chemicals IT division. We met with business area managers to understand their IT needs for the coming year and then took steps to staff ourselves with the right skill sets to support those needs. I enjoyed this work so much that I chose to roll off the program and make this job a permanent assignment.
Soon after, the IT organization was restructured, and I found myself leading the same types of efforts for the entire organization. I then moved into an account management role, where I was doing similar work focused on specific business area needs.
Next, I joined the mergers and acquisitions team. When the company acquired a U.S. home healthcare business, I led the IT effort to integrate the business. I did the same several years later for a large Polish acquisition.
Now I’m back in the States and continue to manage merger and acquisitions efforts as well as other projects.
