European Ph.D. programme

Are you a recent Ph.D. graduate or current postdoctoral researcher? Are you skilled in engineering and science?

At Air Products we recognise that Ph.D.s have different technical and professional skills and career paths to other graduates, therefore our cutting edge Ph.D. Engineering Development Programme provides you with a unique opportunity to apply the skills gained during your Ph.D. in high profile industrial projects. You will complete 3 x 12 month rotational assignments in European locations which could be in the UK, Belgium, The Netherlands or Spain. These assignments will complement your strengths and expand your skills while you gain insight into our corporate culture and play an active role in shaping your career. At the end, you will be guaranteed a permanent role with us.

The ultimate goal of the scheme is to develop both future senior leaders of Air Products and highly technical engineers by using the flexible career opportunities available, on either the technical or the management ladder. As all our graduates, Ph.D. graduates are introduced to senior management quite early on in your careers to build professional relationships and support you through your career journey with us.

To help you even further, we support and encourage you to join our accredited Chartership schemes (such as the IMechE and the IChemE in the UK).

What can you do while on the programme?

You do not need to have a Ph.D. in the same subject as a particular assignment on the graduate programme, as the scheme provides you with a broad range of experiences. However, you will be expected to bring your transferrable skills of best-in-class communication, researching ability, and leadership to Air Products. Projects can range from technical work in the laboratory or using computer modelling, to operational activities, where interpersonal and leadership skills are applied. The three-year programme gives you the experience to become a well rounded engineer or scientist who will go on to make a significant contribution to the future success of Air Products.

Below are just some examples of current and past assignments

  • Research and Development – Cryo-Vessels Design in the UK
  • Operations Machinery Engineer – Energy from Waste Business in the UK with European extensive travel
  • Development Engineer – Merchant Gases, UK/Spain
  • Business Development – Food and Industrial Cryogenics in Belgium
