Kuanyin, Taiwan Air Separation Plant | Air Products has been active in Asia for over 25 years, and today we operate in 9 countries throughout the region. We operate gases joint ventures and wholly-owned subsidiaries that account for almost 90 percent of Asian GNP. Together, with our partners, we've invested over $900 million in the region, generating more than $400 million in sales. Our current goals include growing at two to three times faster than the GNP of countries in which we operate, to leverage our technical strengths, and to become an accepted local supplier through joint venture partners.
Recent growth activity in the region includes the acquisition of helium assets in Singapore, a joint venture in the electronic speciality gases industry in Japan, and the acquisition of Korea's largest emulsions producer. We also recently announced our intent to form a methylamines joint venture in Shanghai, PRC.
