Francesco Maione

Francesco Maione is vice president‒Spain and Portugal for the Industrial Gases business at Air Products. Based in Barcelona, Spain, he is responsible for all Southern Europe business aspects, where Carburos Metálicos and Gasin are well recognized and leading brands in the Spanish and Portuguese markets, respectively.

Air Products in Southern Europe has six production plants, 13 filling centers, two high-purity gases laboratories, and an R+D centre—Matgas—located in Bellaterra (Barcelona). The sub-region encompasses over 100,000 customers, a team of over 600 employees, 200 subcontractors, and a network of 160 agents. The Southern Europe team is also involved in developing the company’s commercial presence and growth plans in Morocco.

Mr. Maione joined Air Products in the U.K. in 1998 as a financial analyst for the Tonnage Gases business. During his years at Air Products, he has covered roles in all of the company’s core businesses, gaining exposure to Merchant, Electronics, Tonnage and Healthcare; carrying out functions that have increased his responsibilities; and developing commercial and operational skills within the company. In 2014 Mr. Maione was appointed general manager of Southern Europe Industrial Gases for Air Products.

Some highlights of Mr. Maione’s journey with the company include working on M&A activities, leading key transformation projects across regions, and focusing on productivity initiatives by applying Lean Six Sigma methodology. He has also been able to experience different cultures due to roles within Air Products that have taken him to Asia, Europe and the U.S.

Prior to joining Air Products, Mr. Maione worked for multinational companies like Kuwait Petroleum in Italy and the French company Vivendi in London.

Mr. Maione holds a degree in business and economics from the University of Rome and an MBA from the LUISS University (Rome). He is a qualified chartered accountant.
