Air Products' facility in Acrefair, North Wales, has been recognised for its unprecedented levels of safety in the workplace with the RoSPA President's Award. The President's Award is only given to a site that has achieved the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Gold Award 10 times in succession, totalling 10 consecutive years of total safety.
The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), a registered charity which was established over 80 years ago, awards companies in the United Kingdom in order to recognise, motivateand further encourage commitment tohealth and safety performance improvement in organisations, by providing them with a rising scale of targets to aim for.
The RoSPA scheme is based on adjudication of a broad portfolio of evidence about the level of development and performance of an entrant's health and safety management system. It examines inputs as well as outputs; health and safety culture as well as the number of days lost.
"As we strive to maintain our year-on-year improvement on our safety programme, we are clearly demonstrating that we maintain our place amongst the leaders in the field of safety", said Nick Lodge, Environmental Health & Safety Controller for Air Products in Acrefair. "The fact that we are operating at our best ever level of safety performance and once again have gained RoSPA recognition, is a clear indication of the high standards we set ourselves and achieve. However, we can never lessen our commitment to safety and must carry on our hard work to ensure we continue to improve on our excellent record".
Mark Begg, Director of Environment, Health, Safety and Quality, Air Products Europe, commented, "The Acrefair team should be very proud of all their hard work that has gone towards receiving this award. For a facility to be awarded with the RoSPA President's Award it shows that there needs to be a lot of commitment and respect for safety in the workplace. Air Products endeavours to make safety in the workplace one of its highest priorities, ensuring that both employees and the local community are able to work and live in a pleasant environment".
