Today Air Products announced that it has been named to CMP Media LLC's InformationWeek 500, a prestigious listing of the most innovative users of information technology in the United States. Jumping to 17th overall, Air Products now occupies its highest ranking in its sixteen-year run on the list. Among chemical companies in the InformationWeek 500, Air Products ranked first of the 15 that were listed this year.
Air Products has shown a steady improvement in its ranking each year since 2000, when the ranking earned was No. 379. The steady increase is due to maximizing the company's continuous improvement and productivity while delivering standardized services and solutions. Air Products' 2005 submission highlighted this growing role of continuous improvement within its Global IT organization that allows it to remove waste from several key processes. The result is its ability to dedicate more resources to value-adding innovation through IT solutions, while at the same time reducing costs. A good example is the work accomplished by the messaging team that stopped 70 percent of spam before it reached someone's inbox and at one-third the cost of the previous anti-spam solution. "We are very proud to have once again made the InformationWeek 500 and to have significantly advanced in the rankings. The continued dedication of the Global IT Team to manage IT more like an internal business and work closely with our business partners is a key component to our success," said Glenn Beck, vice president of Global Information Technology.
For 17 years, the InformationWeek 500 has tracked organizations' IT agendas, providing a unique opportunity to understand and examine their business practices across core areas of technology operations. Companies named to this list demonstrate a pattern of technologicaland organizational innovation. Capital One, which is ranked No. 1, along with Eastman Kodak Co. and SC Johnson & Sons, are some of the household names that made the list. The ranking is also one of the most detailed sources of industry-specific IT budget data. The research project gathered in-depth information directly from companies about how they approach and prioritize their IT investments.
