Tom Johnson, vice president of Air Products San Fu in Taiwan, has been elected for a second term as president of American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Taipei by its Board of Governors. Concurrently, he will remain in his capacity as co-chair of the Chemical Manufacturers Committee, which is one of the 19 specialized committees in AmCham Taipei.
Announcing the appointment, the Board complimented Mr. Johnson on his outstanding contributions to AmCham Taipei and to a highly successful year in 2005 in terms of membership growth, program achievement and interactions with local government bodies. Having registered a six percent membership increase last year, AmCham Taipei currently has over 900 individual members representing about 500 companies in Taiwan. During the same period, it also hosted a record number of some 400 events, including increased numbers of workshops and seminars conducted in the Chinese language for chief executive officers and senior managers.
"I am honored to be elected to serve AmCham Taipei as its president for a second term. I really find the Chamber makes a difference. Last year, we carried out a series of discussions with government officials on issues of importance to the foreign business community. We also focused on several key areas, including those related to human resource enhancement, education, public health, intellectual property protection and infrastructure development, with a considerable level of progress achieved."
"With the support of the officer corps, new Governors and Supervisors from the local Chamber who represent a cross-section of companies with a diverse range of industry background and experience, all our members will continue to work cohesively to promote the interests of the international business community in Taiwan," said Mr. Johnson.
Educated in the United States, Mr. Johnson, who is a native of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, received an MBA from Temple University and completed the Advanced Industrial Marketing Program at Wharton School. He has been an executive with Air Products since 1979. Currently, he holds the appointment of vice president in Air Products San Fu, which supplies industrial gases and chemicals to many leading hi-tech companies in Taiwan.
