Air Products (NYSE:APD) has developed its first public mobile app, which converts weight and volume measures for common industrial gases and liquefied natural gas (LNG). The Air Products Gas Converter is available for free download from global Apple® iTunes® Stores for use on iPhone®, iPad®, and iPod® touch devices. The new app enables users to quickly convert weight and volume measures for industrial gases such as nitrogen, oxygen, argon, hydrogen, helium, and carbon dioxide, as well as LNG/methane.

“Air Products developed the new app as a value-added tool for anyone who frequently uses units of measure that differ from those used by the industrial gas industry, giving them the ability to convert from one unit of measure to another, especially weights and volumes,” said Steve Ruoff, Metals Processing industry manager at Air Products. “We wanted a convenient tool that takes advantage of the digital technology everyone is using today and can be built upon in the future.”

When converting between liquid and gaseous units, the Gas Converter accounts for the unique properties of each industrial gas, particularly molecular weight and density. For LNG, the tool converts flow rates—including Diesel Gallon Equivalents—and allows the user to specify values for a number of variables.

In the past, Air Products has provided printed weight/volume conversion charts on business cards and currently provides interactive conversion tools on the company’s website. With the addition of the Gas Converter mobile app, users can quickly and easily access the tool anytime, anywhere.
