Controlling the temperature of dry ingredients, such as flour, while they’re in the transfer line can be a problem for many food producers. Taking on this challenge and creating a winning solution, Air Products’ food experts have developed the Freshline® Inline Ingredient Chilling Solution.
“Overcoming a key component like temperature control can lead to an increase in product quality and reduction in waste,” commented Ann Callens, segment manager for the food segment. “These are important advancements for food producers in the UK where dry foodstuffs form a critical component of food production activities, whether that’s through domestic use or for export.”
Offering ease and reliability, the Freshline® Inline Ingredient Chilling Solution works by injecting cold nitrogen into the transfer pipe transporting the dry foodstuffs in the production plant. The tailor made inert temperature control system can then cool down the product and air flow to the needed temperature and ensure optimal processing or storage.
One industry in particular that will benefit from Air Products’ technology is bakery. Due to storage in outdoor silos, flour has a higher temperature during the summer season and food producers often have to adapt their recipe to compensate. This far from ideal but can be avoided by using the Freshline® Inline Ingredient Chilling Solution to maintain a constant temperature from season-to-season. This technology ensures dry foodstuffs can be precisely cooled at a certain temperature using nitrogen which, as it’s dry, doesn’t add any moisture to the flour. Use of this gas and technology also provides an inert atmosphere avoiding unwanted powder explosions, such as flammable dust powders, during transport.
Air Products’ inline chilling system is easy to install and operate; to make the process even easier the company’s technicians also provide customers with expert support throughout product set-up.
