March 8 is International Women's Day, a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day is a call to action for accelerating gender parity.
The first International Women's Day (IWD) occurred in 1911, supported by over one million people. Today, IWD belongs to all groups collectively everywhere. At Air Products, employees are empowered to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to advance this worldwide goal.
The 2019 theme for IWD is #BalanceforBetter. This clear message emphasizes that gender balance and equality benefit everyone. Balance is not just a women's issue, it's a business issue. Balance drives a better working world.
Air Products recognizes that women bring vital experiences and perspectives to the table that must be utilized to help the company accomplish its goal of being the world’s safest, most diverse and most profitable industrial gases company. To help support this goal, Air Products’ Women’s Success Network
(WSN) provides a resource for both women and men to help female employees reach their full potential by supporting their development and championing an inclusive workplace. The WSN helps advance IWD’s goal of gender parity through three critical objectives:
- Connecting women with colleagues and leaders to form supportive, strategic networks
- Developing women's technical and leadership skills to promote personal and professional growth to strengthen our talent pool
- Advocating for a culture that fully embraces the business imperative of attracting, retaining and advancing women into roles of leadership and influence
“Diversity and inclusion is a valued part of our culture at Air Products,” said Melissa Schaeffer, vice president‒Chief Audit Executive and executive sponsor of Air Products’ WSN. “We create real competitive advantage by fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment where everyone can achieve their true potential.”
