Efficient and effective manufacture of any product depends on good process engineering. Whether for production of gases, in small quantities or in bulk, processes must constantly be invented, developed and continuously improved over the life cycle of the product. The scale of manufacturing can range from tons per day to grams per day of specialty materials. Several of Air Products' technology platforms depend heavily on high-quality process engineering to maintain their leadership.
Well-developed and mature areas of competence in gas-phase processing include: cryogenic processing, noncryogenic gas separations, reforming and other high-temperature gaseous reaction engineering, hydrogen and syngas manufacture, fluorine and other reactive gas processing. Air Products' extensive experience facilitates the development of new process technologies focused on providing solutions for our customers (applications process development).
Air Products has strong capabilities in process simulation and optimization. Using powerful thermodynamic tools for the analysis of cryogenic cycles, Air Products engineers can evaluate and optimize newly developed processes or investigate the potential of proposed modifications to existing plants. For all of these simulations, Air Products can draw on its extensive proprietary database of thermodynamic properties and equipment performance.
