I like the multiple opportunities for career progression that a global company such as Air Product offers. One year you can optimizing supply chain problems in Helium production, three years later evaluating investments opportunities in Brazil.
Please describe your career at Air Products to date.
I joined the company in 2005 in the Industrial Chemicals division in the Corporate Development Program where I explored moving production to Asia. In 2007 I rolled off the program and was responsible to measure and disclose the Carbon Footprint and define the reduction goals for the company. A bit later, I became an Asset Manager responsible of optimizing the costs for various plants for energy and hydrogen production in Air Products. Most recently in 2014, I joined the Americas group with emphasis on developing new investments in Mexico and South America.
Tell me about the most intriguing/satisfying thing(s) you’ve been involved in since you’ve been at Air Products.
Most recently we purchase a new company in Peru and I was responsible for leading the integration to the larger Air Products. It was a complete cultural immersion on how to do business in a region where I had no prior working experience.
What career advice would you give to those just starting out in their engineering careers?
Constantly seek the opportunity to gain experience on something that you don’t know, where you are not comfortable. Try to excel on technical skills, but at the same time one people matters.
