Commercial Technology/Food Specialist
Why did you join Air Products?
I needed a job. I wasn’t familiar with Air Products at the time. Air Products has a strong presence in the northeast but I’m from Arizona. I was lucky to stumble on a great company.
Why do you love working at Air Products? What is it that keeps you working at Air Products?
I like the way I’m treated. I’m empowered and equipped to accomplish our goals. I work with super high-quality people. I really value the relationships I’ve formed along the way and some have become lifelong friendships.
Please describe your career at Air Products to date.
I originally started as a technician working with semiconductor-related equipment. At the time I had an Associates degree in Electronics Technology. Air Products then paid for my engineering degree through our tuition re-imbursement program. That allowed me to join our Customer Engineering corp where I learned all aspects of our merchant systems. That experience then paved the way for the commercial/technical hybrid role I have now. My expertise is in industrial gas applications for food processing.
Tell me about the most intriguing/satisfying thing(s) you’ve been involved in since you’ve been at Air Products.
The most satisfying aspect of my career with Air Products is the continual learning. I’m constantly learning things . . . some complicated but many very fundamental in nature. Obtaining my engineering degree was also very rewarding. It was difficult to study while working full time. I think that made it all more rewarding.
What career advice would you give to those just starting out in their engineering careers?
I would advise new graduates to maintain a sense of wonder about the world. Although you already graduated, your education is just beginning. Real world problems are the best teachers. You may be surprised about your passion and talents.
Please explain what you do (in your current and/or previous job) contributes to sustainability?
Our foods technology improves sustainability by speeding production and limiting the use of idle, power consuming equipment. Our technology allows throughput to quickly travel through our customers’ facility and get into the hands of the final users. Also, it uses no power when not in use, unlike conventional refrigeration.
We engage with customers of all walks of life and levels of sophistication. It’s important that we can see through their lenses and be forthright in helping them make the proper business decisions.
