Principal Process Engineer
Why did you join Air Products?
I did an internship at Air Products and had such a fantastic experience that I knew that I wanted to join full time after college. I felt that the work I completed during my internship was valuable and challenging. Since I was given these opportunities during my internship I looked forward to the increased challenges and responsibilities that working here full time would provide.
Why do you love working at Air Products? What is it that keeps you working at Air Products?
I love the culture and the people that work at Air Products. People are always eager to help when you have questions and provide additional resources that you can use to find the answers that you need. I also love the opportunities available that are available – from troubleshooting and supporting operating plants to designing and building new plants there have been endless opportunities for me to grow my technical skills and professional network!
Please describe your career at Air Products to date.
I began my career here as an intern. After graduating, I joined the Career Development Program and completed 3 rotations in a Project Engineering role, Plant Process Engineering role in Operations for the Air Separation group and Process Engineer for the Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide (HyCO) group. I really enjoyed being in the technical details and decided to stay in the Process Engineering role. Currently I am a Process Engineer in our Process Gases Product line group, responsible for developing process designs for our Process Gases plants, which include H2, CO, liquid H2, Helium, liquid CO2 and more!
Tell me about the most intriguing/satisfying thing(s) you’ve been involved in since you’ve been at Air Products.
The best experience that I have had at Air Products was supporting a project from the early bidding phase all the way through to the startup of the plant. It was extremely satisfying to follow the project through all phases of design and to see our ideas on paper become a full-scale plant producing Hydrogen and Carbon Monoxide for many of our customers! It was an incredible experience to work with a highly skilled team of engineers to see what we can accomplish as a result of hard work and dedication over the years.
What career advice would you give to those just starting out in their engineering careers?
Ask questions! I’ve found that most of the learning is from on the job experiences, so if you encounter something that you’re not sure about be sure to ask about it! Many experienced engineers are happy to share their knowledge and experience with new engineers and it is one of the best ways to learn.
Please explain what you do (in your current and/or previous job) contributes to sustainability?
Each plant we build we strive to make as efficient. Finding creative ways to reduce energy consumption while still meeting the customer’s requirements is always an interesting part of the job as a Process Engineer. No two processes are the same and each opportunity requires unique thinking to develop the optimal energy efficient solution.
