Lauren Clark
IG Americas Business Development Manager

Why did you join Air Products?
I was graduating from college with a chemical engineering degree but unsure of what I wanted to do. I loved that Air Products’ Career Development Program allowed participants to try three different jobs before committing to a career path.

Why do you love working at Air Products? What is it that keeps you working at Air Products?
I enjoy coming to work everyday at Air Products because of the people. I have worked in a variety of positions and locations with Air Products but the common theme across all my jobs has been the great attitude and passion of my coworkers.

Please describe your career at Air Products to date.
I joined Air Products as an Engineering CDP and had roles in project engineering, the business area and project development engineering. I loved my role in the business area, so I rolled off the CDP program into a permanent position in Houston as an account manager for our pipeline customers. After two years in Houston, I moved to Southern California and became a hydrogen account and asset manager. After four years in California I moved back to Houston and became an account manager for Air Products’ largest refining customers and asset manager for several large Gulf Coast hydrogen facilities. Earlier this year I took a role as a Business Development Manager within IG Americas. I am responsible for the developing new opportunities and working with engineering, finance and the regional business areas to grow and win new business in North America.

Tell me about the most intriguing/satisfying thing(s) you’ve been involved in since you’ve been at Air Products.
Being in customer facing roles most of my career, my most satisfying moments have been when I can be creative and develop solutions that satisfy customers needs but also bring value to Air Products.

What career advice would you give to those just starting out in their engineering careers?
Be open to new experiences! I have grown and learned the most in my career when I have been offered an opportunity that was very different than previous roles. Focus on doing your current role well. I have seen where people are too focused on their next step and don’t realize that they need to make a good impression and do their current job well in order to reach that next step.

Please explain what you do (in your current and/or previous job) contributes to sustainability?
In my current role as a Business Development Manager I work with customers to develop solutions that meet their requirements, which often includes helping customer meet their own goals for sustainability. Additionally, as an asset manager for several of Air Products’ largest steam methane reformers, one of my main goals was to reduce the amount of energy and water and increase the efficiency of our plants. At Air Products’ Port Arthur facility, we have a CO2 facility that sequesters, cleans and sells CO2 waste gas from the SMR to a customer who uses is for Enhanced Oil Recovery.
