Michele Duffy
Plant Process Engineer

Why did you join Air Products?
After graduation I was unsure of what type of engineering position I wanted. I was drawn to the CDP program and a chance to explore several jobs early in my career.

Why do you love working at Air Products? What is it that keeps you working at Air Products?
I love the technical challenges that I work on every day. After 20 years at Air Products, I am still learning new things. I love the positive attitudes and teamwork of my coworkers that allow us to focus on the problem at hand and find a solution.

Please describe your career at Air Products to date.
I started in the Career Development Program and had positions as a Production Engineer and Process Engineer in three different businesses and locations. I then worked as a Process Engineer, designing and starting up new Hydrogen plants for several years. From there I moved to my current position which is a Plant Process Engineer supporting our operating Hydrogen plants.

Tell me about the most intriguing/satisfying thing(s) you’ve been involved in since you’ve been at Air Products.
It has been satisfying to see new technologies brought to life in our operating plants. There are risks in trying something new on a large scale, but when you put in the necessary work to mitigate the risks, it is very rewarding when the technology is successful.

What career advice would you give to those just starting out in their engineering careers?
Take note of the experience and knowledge of your coworkers, and the resources available to you within your company. You will need to draw on those people and resources throughout your career to grow your own knowledge base, and to be an effective engineer.

Please explain what you do (in your current and/or previous job) contributes to sustainability?
As a Plant Process Engineer, I am always looking for ways to run our Hydrogen plants more efficiently and more reliably. As a result, Air Products can consume fewer natural resources and still meet the needs of our customers. Process safety is another key part of my job. I review changes to our equipment, procedures and operating conditions to ensure that our employees and our communities stay safe.
