NEW POLYURETHANE PREPOLYMER FOR HEAVY-DUTY, MOISTURECURE PRIMERS INTRODUCED BY AIR PRODUCTS

ATLANTA, GA (October 27, 1993) -- A new, polyurethane prepolymer specifically developed for formulating moisturecure primer systems for industrial coatings has been introduced by Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. Airthane® PCG-475A prepolymer offers numerous advantages over conventional polyurethane primer systems including good corrosion resistance, improved coating flexibility and excellent recoatability. Recoat windows with Airthane PCG-475A prepolymer formulations are in excess of two weeks as compared to the 1-2 days typical with many conventional prepolymers. Air Products' Airthane PCG-475A prepolymer is one of a broad family of Airthane prepolymer products manufactured by the company's patented Airthane process. As such, it exhibits the same performance characteristics of the entire Airthane prepolymer family such as ultralow residual diisocyanate monomer for improved worker hygiene and a lower viscosity giving the formulator the ability to formulate at 2.8--or less--pounds per gallon of VOC (volatile organic compounds).

Air Products' Airthane prepolymers are an example of the company's commitment to supplying the coatings industry with superior products, enabling customers to formulate low VOC systems with enhanced performance. Furthermore, Air Products has launched its Coatings Initiative, a comprehensive research and technical program focusing on providing unique, high performance technologies to the coatings industry. This is in addition to Air Products' already large role as a supplier of engineered raw materials for the coatings industry such as Surfynol® surfactants, polymer emulsions and epoxy curing agents.
