AIR PRODUCTS POLYMERS' NEWEST EMULSION PRODUCT FEATURING UNIQUE COMBINATION IS INTRODUCED TO NORTH AMERICA

Airflex® EP17 Emulsion Provides Application Versatility

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. (February 28, 2002) — The unique combination of high PVC adhesion, high heat resistance, and high plasticizer response of Airflex® EP17 emulsion, Air Products Polymers, L.P.'s newest emulsion product in North America, provides tremendous versatility to the adhesives industry. High plasticizer response gives the adhesive formulator flexibility in compounding. Airflex EP17 emulsion's unique balance of heat resistance and adhesion capabilities make it unmatched by any VAE emulsion available today.

Airflex EP17 emulsion is a vinyl acetate ethylene (VAE) copolymer stabilized with poly (vinyl alcohol). Well-suited as a raw material in packaging and vinyl laminating adhesive applications, Airflex EP17 emulsion may also be used in membrane pressing applications. "This product's strengths are its performance capabilities and its versatility," said Jose A. Briones, Air Products Polymers' adhesives marketing manager. "Airflex EP17 emulsion maintains its adhesive and cohesive strength at elevated temperatures, and delivers bonds that remain permanently flexible and resistant to aging. An added benefit of this product is that it is water-based, with low-VAM composition, which assists formulators in meeting environmental regulations."

In vinyl laminating, Airflex EP17 emulsion can be used without additional formulation, and exhibits very little to no vinyl shrinkage and no loss of adhesion when exposed to high temperatures for a prolonged period of time. It also can be used to provide a cost-effective formulation in a waterborne urethane blend. Additionally, Airflex EP17 emulsion bonds to a variety of substrates including paper, cloth, wood, aluminum, glass, treated polyethylene and polypropylene, metallized films, PVC, cellulose, acetate, PET and polystyrene.

Having enjoyed many years of success in Europe, South America and Asia, Airflex EP17 emulsion is the most recent adhesive product introduced to North America by Air Products Polymers, a manufacturer and distributor of latex polymers, as part of the joint venture between Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (Allentown, Pa., NYSE:APD) and Wacker-Chemie GmbH (Munich, Germany). For more information, contact:
