| Facility to Support Murphy's New Hydrocracker Due On-stream in 2003
LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. (July 5, 2002) — Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE:APD) announced today that it will build a 40 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) hydrogen facility in New Orleans, La. to support Murphy Oil USA, Inc.'s new Meraux, La. hydrocracker. Murphy Oil USA, Inc. is a wholly owned subsidiary of Murphy Oil Corporation (NYSE: MUR). The hydrogen facility is to be on-stream in the third quarter of 2003.
The hydrogen facility, built, owned, and operated by Air Products, will be a natural gas-based hydrogen steam methane reformer. It will supply the new Murphy Oil hydrocracker with the hydrogen required to produce lighter, cleaner transportation fuels from heavier feedstocks. It will be located at Air Products' existing New Orleans facility, and will provide product under a long-term contract to Murphy Oil via an existing Air Products pipeline system.
"We are very pleased to continue our relationship with Murphy Oil through the construction of this facility and long-term supply contract," said Jeff Byrne, Air Products' regional vice president for the Chemical and Process Industries in North America. "We believe our experience and leadership in hydrogen plant facility design and construction, as well as product supply reliability, will continue to provide great value to Murphy Oil and the refining industry."
The hydrogen facility will be the 18th to be built through the Air Products and Technip-Coflexip Group (NYSE: TKP and Euronext: 13170) alliance. Together, Air Products and Technip-Coflexip have provided the worldwide refining industry with competitive technology, plus world-class safety and reliability with "over the fence" hydrogen supply. Recently, Air Products and Technip-Coflexip announced the signing of a new 10-year agreement extending this successful alliance through 2011.
Both companies bring a long history of hydrogen experience to their role in the alliance. Technip-Coflexip provides the design and construction expertise for steam methane reformers. Air Products provides the gas clean-up technology and, through its operating network, brings operational and engineering knowledge to "design-in" high reliability and efficiency, and then operates and maintains the facilities for customers under long-term agreements.
