BAYER POLYMERS APPOINTS AIR PRODUCTS AS GLOBAL DISTRIBUTOR FOR EXCESS TDI INTERMEDIATES

LEHIGH VALLEY, Pa. (May 16, 2003) — Bayer Polymers LLC, Pittsburgh, Pa., has appointed Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. (NYSE: APD) as its global distributor for excess toluenediisocyanate (TDI) intermediates. With the 2003 start-up of its new dinitrotoluene (DNT) and toluenediamine (TDA) manufacturing facility in Dormagen, Germany, Bayer expects to have intermediate capacity in Europe and the U.S. in excess of what it currently requires to produce TDI. Bayer has decided to establish a formal relationship with Air Products to market and distribute the surplus products.

"This opportunity allows us to enhance our service and create additional value for our customers, especially those operating outside North America. Bayer is a leader in the polyurethane industry and we are pleased they have appointed us to distribute their surplus product," said Jeffrey Lockett, global marketing and sales manager–Polyurethane Intermediates at Air Products.
