17th July 2008 – The Borough of Stockton Swim Scheme (BOSSS), whose member’s include Jemma Lowe one of Great Britain’s swimming representatives at the Beijing Olympics, has received a sponsorship boost thanks to Wilton-based company Air Products.
The company’s £1,500 funding will be used to pay for much needed equipment, including state of the art specialist swimming paddles, which help develop a strong swimming technique.
BOSSS, which is based at Splash Pool in Stockton, near Air Products’ Wilton Hydrogen Plant, supports competitive swimmers striving towards regional, national and international success. Their successes include World Champion medallists and British record holders Jess Dickons and Jemma Lowe. Jemma (18) has also been selected to swim in the 100 and 200 butterfly events Great Britain in 2008 Beijing Olympic Games in August.
BOSSS Head Coach, Graeme Antwhistle, who is to attend the Olympics as part of the GB coaching team, said: “We’re very grateful for this generous support from Air Products, some of which will enable us to run a level 1 swimming gala, which will enable swimmers from across the region to compete. This is an important opportunity for BOSSS to develop the club for the future and provide wider support for competitive swimming in the area; perhaps producing even more Olympic-calibre swimmers!”
Air Products’ Wilton Hydrogen Plant Manager, Gordon Bruce, has been involved with the club for the past 10 years and his two children have competed at National Level, commented: “As a company Air Product’s really tries to support our local community, particularly in the area of health and fitness. We encourage programmes and activities that promote character building and physical well-being – something BOSSS does exceptionally well, to the benefit of Stockton. This sponsorship really has met this aim.” |
