06th May 2008 — Air Products was delighted to take part in a very special event at the National Trust’s Bodnant Garden on Friday 25 th April. HRH The Prince of Wales was visiting the Garden for the first time as part of a day-long tour of North-East Wales. As well as having a tour of the Garden the Prince joined a unique garden party at which the company was an invited guest of The Gateway Gardens Trust.
Through donations of both time and money, local industrial gas company Air Products have helped support the Gateway charity as they open up historic gardens to thousands of people in Wales. For instance, together they treated young cancer patients from local hospices to a special Chirk Castle visit.
After meeting the Prince and watching him plant a tree to mark the occasion, Laurence O’Donnell, General Manager Acrefair, Air Products, commented:
"We’re really proud of our involvement with the Gateway; they make such a valuable contribution to the Welsh community, which is something we saw personally in the reactions of hospice patients visiting Chirk Castle.
Being invited to meet the Prince on such a special occasion was a real honour for me personally but also for us as a company."
The event marked the start of 60 ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ garden visits taking place throughout 2008 to celebrate the Prince’s 60 th birthday recognising the work of charities of which he is Patron of and their supporters. It was held to mark the work of long-term volunteers and members of staff from the National Trust of which the Prince is President, recognising their fantastic contribution over many years. Gateway Chairman, Bettina Harden MBE, said "The presence of the Prince of Wales at our inaugural Diamonds Are Forever visit was a dream come true for everyone involved. It meant that we were able to introduce His Royal Highness not only to the wonderful volunteers and long-term staff from the National Trust, but also to some of the most devoted sponsors and supporters of our work in Wales."
While the prince visited Bodnant Garden, he also met the National Trust’s Gateway visitors, Gateway staff, trustees and representatives from Denbigh and St Asaph-based Swayne Johnson Solicitors , another company that provides invaluable financial support for of the work of the Trust. |
