Air Products Again Among Fortune’s Most Admired Companies
(March 2, 2009) Air Products was listed as the #4 most admired company within the chemicals industry sector by Fortune Magazine in its "Most Admired Companies” March 2009 issue. Air Products has been consistently on the “Most Admired” list since 2000.
This year, FORTUNE combined its America's Most Admired Companies (AMAC) and World's Most Admired Companies (WMAC) into one survey called, "Fortune's Most Admired Companies Survey." The new survey is comprised of 66 industries: the 25 international industries from the former WMAC and 41 industries that were exclusive to AMAC.
To arrive at the 2009 rankings, research consultant Hay Group surveyed approximately 15,000 senior executives, outside directors, and industry analysts to identify the companies that enjoy the strongest reputations within their industries and across industries.
Executives, directors and securities analysts were asked to rank companies within their industry on nine criteria: (1) quality of management; (2) quality of products/services offered; (3) innovativeness; (4) value as a long-term investment; (5) soundness of financial position; (6) ability to attract, develop and keep talented people; (7) responsibility to the community and/or the environment; (8) wise use of corporate assets; and (9) effectiveness in conducting its business globally. Only those companies that scored the best in these criteria made the "Most Admired" list for their industry. In addition to being ranked within its industry group, Air Products also was ranked one of the Most Admired companies in Pennsylvania, where the company is headquartered.
