Air Products’ Band Entertains Soldiers and Families at Walter Reed Army Medical Center

New Courtyard at Mologne House is Celebrated

Air Products’ corporate band, The Difference, traveled to Washington, D.C. earlier this month to entertain military personnel, their families, and staff members. They played at a barbeque on the new courtyard at the Mologne House, a four-story hotel for recovering and convalescing soldiers and their families. It is part of the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.  Approximately 400 were in attendance.

“This was our way of saying ‘thank you’ to some of the men and women who have served and fought for our country,” says drummer Sal Nicrone. “Many of these soldiers are back from the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan and are in rehabilitation from injuries received there. Our hope was to add a little cheer to their lives and lend some support to them and their families.”

On behalf of the Air Products Foundation, Nicrone presented a check for $1,000 to the Yellow Ribbon Fund, created in early 2005 to assist injured service members and their families while they recuperate at Walter Reed and the National Naval Medical Center.

Air Products and its band members were honored by the Yellow Ribbon Fund with a 12 x 12-inch paving stone for the Walk of Appreciation in the new Mologne House courtyard.

The Walter Reed Army Medical Center is the hub of the system that provides comprehensive health care for more than 150,000 soldiers, other service members, family members and retirees. The Difference plays at about 20 charity and community events each year. Over the past few years the band has helped raise over a half-million dollars at benefits for a variety of organizations.
