Electrical Properties

The electrical properties of polyurethane elastomers can be modified by compounding with conductive fillers.

For example, polyurethane elastomers made from MOCA-cured polyester prepolymers containing 5 pph antistatic agent or 5 pph electrically conductive carbon black were prepared. The resulting elastomers were compared in electrical conductivity to Shore 75A hardness neoprene rubber. In the comparison, the polyurethane elastomer containing the conductive carbon black showed the same electrical conductivity as the neoprene, while the polyurethane elastomer containing the anti-static agent showed much lower conductivity than the neoprene but higher conductivity compared with a neet polyurethane elastomer.
