Technical Papers

User-Friendly, High-Hardness Elastomers (140-9724)
This paper identifies prepolymer mixtures that meet certain desired high-hardness and pot life criteria.

Optimization of High-Performance Elastomer Properties (140-9503)
This paper provides preliminary laboratory results from a study aimed at optimizing the dynamic and high temperature properties of a particular class of cast elastomer. The results feature the structure and processing effects on TDI resins cured with Lonzacure MCDEA curative.

Airthane® High Performance Polyurethane Prepolymers (140-9242)
This paper reviews the results of commercial experience showing the improved dynamic and high temperature performance of Airthane TDI/PTMEG, TDI/PPG and TDI/polyester prepolymer systems.

Mechanisms and Test Methods for the Abrasive Wear of Polyurethane Elastomers (140-9218)
This paper describes the results of a survey of the effect of compositional variables on the wear behavior of representative polyurethane cast elastomers.

Airthane Prepolymers: Meeting Performance Requirements Through Technology (140-9215)
This paper describes Airthane prepolymer technology and how it provides the ability to make a better part, more easily. Processing improvements are discussed, including low toxicity, low viscosity, longer pot life and quicker demold. Performance improvements are also outlined, including increased dynamic performance, better heat-aging and improved room and high-temperature properties.

Designing PUR Elastomers for Dynamic Applications (140-9205)
This paper outlines the steps required in choosing systems for dynamic applications. It reviews three dynamic test methods and illustrates the impact of polyurethane composition on dynamic performance using these methods. The effects of diisocyanate, polyol backbone, chain extender and curative stoichiometry are demonstrated, and an example of how these tests have been successfully used to predict performance in a real life application is discussed.

Tailoring Elastomer Performance Through Cure Schedule Manipulation (140-9936)
This paper describes how the utilization of nonstandard cure schedules with high-performance prepolymers can improve selected performance attributes by as much as 50% while decreasing cure times by as much as 75%.
