High-Quality, Cost-Effective Intermediates for the Polyurethane Industry

Air Products manufactures and markets a line of intermediates mainly used in polyurethane applications. Included are Dinitrotoluene (DNT), Meta-toluenediamine (TDA), Ortho-toluenediamine (OTD) and Nitric Acid–65% solution.

Applications

Our products find use in a number of applications within the polyurethane industry. DNT and TDA are both used primarily as flexible polyurethane foam intermediates. OTD is used as an intermediate for polyols, antioxidants, and corrosion inhibitors. Nitric acid is used as an intermediate in organic compounds such as fertilizers and aniline.

Extensive Experience in the Industry

Air Products began producing DNT in 1966 at our plant in Pensacola, Florida. In 1975, we moved DNT production to our Pasadena, Texas facility where we also expanded into TDA and OTD production. Today, after continuous capacity expansions and a successful start-up of a grassroots DNT facility in Geismar, Louisiana in 1998, the company is the world's largest merchant supplier of these three products. After successfully operating the DNT facility in Geismar for about eight years, Air Products sold the plant in 2006. This extensive production capability, combined with strong process technology, enables Air Products to offer our customers high-quality, cost-effective products backed up by a network of support services.
