Hydrogen and HCNG (Hydrogen Compressed Natural Gas) technology for the transportation industry Air Products is on the forefront of development of hydrogen energy technologies. We are contributing our expertise to hydrogen energy projects across the United States and around the world. As the world's largest supplier of merchant hydrogen, we are taking a leadership position in the development of the hydrogen infrastructure necessary to fuel HCNG (Hydrogen/Compressed Natural Gas) and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles.

In addition to hydrogen supply, Air Products can provide the necessary equipment to get your fleet up and running on hydrogen or HCNG. |
All the equipment you need Whether you are ready for a permanent station to fuel your fleet or a temporary installation for a technology demonstration, from two to 200 vehicles, Air Products offers a range of products for fleets with • HICE (Internal Combustion Engines running on hydrogen) • H2 fuel cells, or • HCNG (blend of h2 and CNG) including hydrogen dispensers, HCNG fuel blenders and dispensers, hydrogen compression and hydrogen storage systems. We also have the infrastructure to support your hydrogen supply needs, whether it's delivery of liquid or compressed gas or from one of our on-site generation or purification systems.

Take advantage of Air Products' 50+ years of hydrogen experience We understand the wide range of issues involved in the transition to hydrogen energy-technical, operational, economic. With decades of experience in hydrogen applications and an unsurpassed safety record, we offer a wide range of services including: safety training, engineering, permitting, business analysis and project management services.
Reduce transportation fleet emissions and fuel consumption with HCNG Faced with a need to reduce emissions, transit authorities, fleet owners and energy consumers around the world are recognizing hydrogen as a clean, efficient alternative fuel. In particular, a blend of hydrogen and compressed natural gas (HCNG) can provide several advantages, including a 99% reduction in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

A modified bus engine runs on 30% hydrogen and 70 percent compressed natural gas and reduces engine emissions. |
HCNG engine technology can meet 2007 emission standards HCNG technology has demonstrated the capability to meet California's 2007 heavy-duty emissions standard with less than 0.2 grams per horsepower hour (g/hp-hr) of NOx. Using a volume blend of up to 30 percent hydrogen and 70 percent compressed natural gas, vehicles can be modified to run cleaner without sacrificing power. HCNG blend vehicles will operate with reduced carbon monoxide and total hydrocarbons emissions.
