PROJECT EXPERIENCE

Department of Energy – Las Vegas
The City of Las Vegas project for the Department of Energy (DOE) was five-year demonstration project that included an on-site hydrogen reformer, backup liquid hydrogen, a fuel cell for power generation to base-load the reformer, and high pressure fueling for both hydrogen and hydrogen/ natural gas blend vehicles. A consortium of three members including, Air Products, Plug Power LLC, and the City of Las Vegas executed the project. Air Products was the prime contractor and had overall responsibility for the project. Specific responsibilities included: hydrogen supply, refueling station design, sub-system integration, environmental and safety planning/coordination, and overall project/construction management.

Hydrogen Energy Station at the Orange County Sanitation District
This project represents the first of a kind implementation of an economically-viable bio-hydrogen generator in the United States. When completed, it will serve as the model for additional facilities at many other amenable locations across the United States and throughout the world.

The objective of the project is to determine the economic and technical viability of a hydrogen energy station designed to co-produce heat, power and hydrogen. Biogas from an anaerobic digester will be fed into a molten carbonate fuel cell which will produce heat, power and hydrogen. The heat and power will be used within the waste-treatment facility. The hydrogen, which is considered 100% renewable, will be sent to a fueling station by pipeline and dispensed into vehicles at 350 and 700 bar. State, Federal and private funding sources are being used to develop, build and deploy this technology. It's anticipated that the station will be operational at the end of 2009.
