Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. is providing a link to this Safety Alert from the Compressed Gas Association to remind purchasers of the dangers of improper acetylene use. This communication is intended to raise your awareness of an important safety issue regarding one of our products and to reinforce Air Products' leadership in communication of safety issues to our customers. We encourage you to communicate this to all your employees and customers, as appropriate.
The message of this alert is clear:
Never, under any circumstances, attempt to transfer the acetylene from one cylinder to another, to refill acetylene cylinders or to mix any other gas with acetylene in a cylinder.
Any effort to transfill acetylene is highly dangerous and should be done only by qualified manufacturers and handlers. The use of acetylene for recreational purposes as described in the attached bulletin is extremely hazardous and should never be attempted.
Please carefully review this CGA Safety Alert to understand the dangers of misusing Acetylene. Note the reference to the CGA pamphlet on Acetylene Safety, (CGA G-1). You can obtain this pamphlet directly from the CGA.
This communication is consistent with the goals of Responsible Care® and reinforces the role of the Compressed Gas Association and Air Products in communicating Product Stewardship and safety issues to our customers. We encourage you to communicate this information to any others in your location who may have access to the acetylene cylinders you have purchased from us. Further information on the safe handling of Air Products industrial gas products such as Acetylene can be obtained by contacting Air Products' Technical Information Center at 1-800-752-1597.
