The Air Products Liquid Nitrogen (LIN) Ambassador Program is a free program which is offered to local schools, scout troops, community organizations, and non-profit groups. Air Products has been sponsoring this program since the 1970s. This program confirms Air Products' commitment to the community and demonstrates the magic of science and engineering. The program promotes awareness of liquid nitrogen, as well as Air Products' community presence and commitment. The demonstrations are done by Air Products employees, who volunteer their time as LIN ambassadors at schools, fairs, and other public events.

The LIN ambassadors amaze the public by freezing hot dogs, balls, and flowers in seconds by submersing them in liquid nitrogen (LIN). They then proceed to break the hot dogs and balls and crumple the flowers to demonstrate cryogenic grinding and freezing techniques. Balloons are deflated by being put into a dewar of LIN, which results in shrinking them into flat, shriveled ribbons of latex. The balloons are then warmed back up, and they re-inflate right before your eyes as the air molecules warm and expand.

Other demonstrations feature how hot and cold conditions can produce the same result. Using fire or LIN, we can suck a hard-boiled egg into a bottle or launch a racquetball over the heads of the crowd. It is even possible to hammer a nail with a banana that has been frozen in LIN.

The highlight of the demonstration is the making of LINcream. The LIN ambassador makes it in minutes, right in front of the audience, by pouring LIN into traditional ice cream ingredients. The ambassador leaves it up to the audience to decide how it compares with the store-bought ice cream. Most agree that LINcream is the freshest ice cream they have ever tasted. This is truly a spectacular event. Below is a photo of the LINcream chefs, freezing it off at a picnic.

Thanks to the dedicated employees of Air Products, the miracles of science are brought to many people who otherwise would probably never have this wonderful opportunity.
