(October 2008) Air Products was recently recognized by SEMI, a global semiconductor industry association, for supporting its High Tech U (HTU) program in Taiwan. Corning Painter, vice president and general manager of Global Electronics Division, received the honor on behalf of the company from Taiwan President Ma Ying-Jeou on September 9 at the Gala Dinner of SEMICON Taiwan 2008, a leading microelectronics tradeshow in the region.
A worldwide industry-driven career development program created by SEMI since 2001, HTU has successfully exposed thousands of students and teachers around the world to educational and career opportunities in fields related to math, science and technology.
Starting from summer 2009, HTU will be introduced to Taiwan, as there is rising demand among corporations for talented college graduates to keep pace with the booming electronics industry.
As one of the five sponsors for the Taiwan HTU, Air Products will provide monetary support through our subsidiary in Taiwan, Air Products San Fu. In addition, the Asia Technology team, led by Dr. Chimin Sheu, technology director of Asia Electronics and a member of SEMI Taiwan and China committees, will offer technical knowledge and support during the course of program and curriculum design.
"SEMI HTU is one of many social responsibility initiatives through which the company helps create and sustain the vitality of the communities where our people live and work," said Painter. "I am always encouraged by our Taiwan team’s dedication to providing greater value to society. This is highly appreciated by the local government." |
