As chairperson of The London Hydrogen Partnership, Nicky Gavron, Deputy Mayor of London, has recently announced the launch of the London Schools Hydrogen Challenge (LSHC). As a member of the partnership, Air Products has pledged its support. The Challenge, aimed at 11 to 14-year old London school children, introduces the younger generation to cleaner energy, specifically hydrogen technologies and their applications.
The Challenge runs from September 2007 to June 2008. Schools are provided with a range of online teaching resources that support the National Curriculum and help teachers integrate the subject into lessons. The event kicks off on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at London's Living Room, City Hall where the Deputy Mayor of London will officially launch the programme. There will be an opportunity for teachers to meet the London Hydrogen Partnership who are organising the Challenge, and to trial the new Challenge website and teaching resources. There will also be the chance to win interactive whiteboards worth £1200 which have been donated by Air Products. In addition, Air Products is also donating the top prize of £1,000 for the winning school, which will be presented at the Grand Final in 2008.
All secondary schools in the London area are eligible. Teachers can visit the LSHC to find out more about the challenge and to register their school online.
