Air Products’ Membership in PROZON Helps Reduce Ozone Depleting Substances

(January 2009) – Air Products, represented by PROZON (a foundation for protection of the Ozone Layer, established by three major Polish refrigerants distributors—including Air Products) attended the exhibition at United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poznan, Poland from December 01 to 12, 2008.

Over 11,000 participants from more than 190 countries attended the event, which is the biggest of its kind. The event focuses on considering and exploring what can be done to reduce global warming and how to cope with temperature increases over the coming years.

PROZON—the foundation representing Air Products at the event, has a mission to support any activities constraining the application and emission of Ozone depleting substances to the atmosphere (e.g. freons, halons), as well as to raise ecological awareness among end users of these gases. The Foundation has organized and is administering a nationwide network for Recovery, Reclamation and Recycling of refrigerants (known as the 3R Network). PROZON works with several hundred servicing companies which recover used refrigerants with professional equipment provided by the foundation. These refrigerants are completely reclaimed and tested in PROZON specialized laboratory and then placed back to the market.

Michał Dobrzyński, managing director of PROZON said: “Over the last ten years PROZON has accepted for reclamation or destruction almost 300 tons of recovered refrigerants. Moreover, we estimate that the professional recovery equipment provided by PROZON to hundreds of servicing companies we work with has prevented the release of some 5,000 tons of CFC, HCFC and HFC gases into the atmosphere.”
