European Sites Scoop Gold Safety Awards
Two Air Products sites, Aberdeen in Scotland and Siewierz in Poland, have scooped coveted gold awards for safety from the European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA). Gold awards are the industry’s most prestigious prize for safety, only given to those achieving 15 years or one million working hours without a lost-time incident. Employees at our Siewierz site have clocked up an impressive 1.5 million hours without a lost-time incident, sealing an award for the second year in a row. Meanwhile, Aberdeen is celebrating 50 consecutive years of outstanding safety performance.

Three Plants in Korea Win Safety Awards from KOSHA
Air Products’ air separation units (I and II) and its nitrogen trifluoride (NF3) plant in Ulsan, Korea, received the “Achieving the Ten-Fold Zero-Accident” and “Three-Fold” certifications respectively from KOSHA (Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency) on 18 August 2011. Only eight companies, including Air Products, received the certifications; less than 20 out of 300 companies in Ulsan have won the “Ten-Fold” certification since the Ulsan Industrial District was established 50 years ago.
Air Products’ Oxygen Enrichment for Cement and Lime Manufacturing Receives “Technology of the Year” Award at Global Fuels Conference in Malaysia
Air Products’ oxygen enrichment technology for cement and lime manufacturing was recognized by Global Cement magazine as the “Global Alternative Fuels Technology of the Year.” The award, given annually for the most innovative technology for alternative fuel use, was presented at the 5th Global Fuels Conference & Exhibition in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in April 2011. This technology enables customers around the world to boost production, increase use of alternative and waste fuels, decrease emissions, and improve overall kiln operation.

Air Products Wins Back-to-Back-to-Back Union Pacific Railroad Awards for Safety
For the third consecutive year, Air Products has received a Pinnacle Award for chemical transportation safety from Union Pacific Railroad. The Pinnacle Award annually recognizes companies that have implemented successful prevention and corrective plans, and have achieved a rate of zero non-accident releases for shipments of regulated hazardous material.

EIGA Safety Accolades for Spanish Plants
In its annual awards, the European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA) recognized the excellent safety performance of four of our Spanish plants. Our Tarragona site received a Gold Award, only given after 15 years or one million work hours without a lost-time incident. Our plant in Mallorca and the offices in La Coruña received the Silver Award, awarded for 10 years or 500,000 hours without an incident that results in an employee having to take time off work. Finally, our facilities in Barcelona and the plant in La Coruña received the Bronze Award for five consecutive years without a lost time incident.

Air Products (Nanjing) Honored as a Best Practice Unit in Safety and Environmental Protection
On February 17, 2011, Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park (NCIP) Administrative Committee held an award presentation ceremony to recognize the 2010 NCIP Best Practice Units and Individuals in Safety and Environmental Protection. Air Products and Chemicals (Nanjing) Co Ltd has won once again one of the six Best Practice Units among 108 companies in NCIP, after winning this award last year. Mr. Cao Siyi – Air Products Nanjing Plant Supervisor, was honored as one of the ten Best Practice Individuals.
This award represents a significant recognition of our outstanding performance on advocating and implementing the company’s EH&S policy, national and local government policies, and requirements on safety and environmental protection aspects.
Air Products’ GEO China Construction Engineering Team Awarded First Ever CURT Award in Shanghai
The CURT (Construction User Roundtable) organization’s international committee held its first Asia meeting in December 2010 in Shanghai, China. The CURT organization is composed of multinational owner companies that address various issues in the construction industry to help improve execution, share experiences and develop tools to improve. During the meeting, Air Products’ Asia Construction Engineering team was awarded a CURT International safety award in the "one million safe man-hours category" for outstanding Achievements in the Construction Industry for Safety Excellence for the Wison II 1650 TPD ASU project. The Wison II project, in Nanjing, China, accumulated over 1.3 MM man hours without a recordable incident. The project also used some very innovative safety tools and enforcement techniques to accomplish this task. Air Products was the sole company recognized during this first Asia CURT meeting.
Taiwan North On-Site Team Scores Safety and Hygiene Contribution Award
Our north on-site team at the Lung Tang AU Optronics Corp. (AUO) site received an Excellent Safety and Hygiene Contribution award from Taoyuan County Government, Taiwan, in November 2010. Taoyuan County Government and Taiwan Council of Labor Affairs collaborated to promote industrial safety and hygiene, encouraging local companies operating in the same region to unite and establish Safety and Hygiene Families. Our on-site operations team at AUO joined the DaDa Safety and Hygiene Family, led by AUO. Air Products San Fu’s north on-site team was acclaimed as a "company of excellent demonstration" and awarded the trophy of “Excellent Safety and Hygiene Contribution" by Taoyuan County Magistrate, Chih-Yang Wu.
Air Products Receives Award of Merit from WateReuse Association for Outstanding Water Conservation Efforts
Air Products has received an Award of Merit from the WateReuse Association (WRA) for conserving 62 million gallons of drinking water annually by converting to recycled water for the cooling process at its Santa Clara, Calif., manufacturing facility. Nominated by the City of Santa Clara, the company is one of the largest among 550 customers connected to the South Bay Water Recycling recycled water line, which preserves valuable drinking water by distributing recycled water for nondrinking purposes, including industrial cooling processes.

Air Products Carrington Facility Receives Prestigious Gold Safety Award
Air Products has been honored with four European Industrial Gases Association (EIGA) Gold safety awards; their most prestigious award recognizing the company’s outstanding safety performance. Among the facilities commended for an achievement of 15 years or 1 million worked hours without a lost-time incident was Air Products’ Carrington (UK) facility. The company’s Hull facility (UK) also received a Bronze award, for five subsequent years without a lost time incident.

Air Products Merak, Cikarang and Gresik Sites in Indonesia Score Safety Award from the Government
Air Products Indonesia received another safety award from the government to recognize outstanding safety performance, recording zero lost-time accidents (LTA) for the Merak, Cikarang and Gresik plants between December 2003 and December 2009.
Million Hour Safety Record Gains Gold Award for Perafita
In 2010 Air Products’ Packaged Gases site in Perafita, Portugal, was awarded a Gold Safety Award by EIGA, the European Industrial Gases Association. This prestigious award is only given to sites that have surpassed one million working hours without a lost-time incident.
Air Products Honored as a Best Practice Unit in Safety and Environmental Protection by Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park in China
Air Products and Chemicals (Nanjing) Co Ltd (APCNJ) was honored by Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park (NCIP) Administrative Committee as a “2009 NCIP Best Practice Unit in Safety and Environmental Protection.” Among over 100 companies in NCIP, only six earned this award.
Air Products’ Ellesmere Port Facility Receives Prestigious Safety Award
Air Products’ was honored with the European Industrial Gases Association’s (EIGA) most prestigious safety award. Recognizing the company’s outstanding safety performance, the Gold award commended their Ellesmere Port facility for achieving 30 years and 1 million worked hours without a lost time incident.

Compressed Gas Association Recognizes Air Products with Three 2009 CGA Environmental Awards
In April 2010, the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) honored Air Products with three Environmental Awards in recognition of significant conservation initiatives in our Electronics business:
Hometown, Pennsylvania Resource Conservation Initiatives
At our Hometown, PA electronics specialty gas manufacturing facility, efforts to recover and reuse waste heat from production processes have constituted a significant reduction in fuel oil consumption and resulting CO2 emissions. The CGA also recognized the site’s efforts to further reduce nitrogen trifluoride (NF3) emissions while increasing plant efficiencies.
Carlsbad, California Industrial Wastewater Discharge Reduction Project
Air Products’ Carlsbad, California facility was recognized for achieving an 80% reduction in the amount of discharged industrial waste water ― the result of multiple, continuous improvement projects that have also driven a commensurate reduction in site’s water consumption, benefitting the local community and the company alike.
Nanke, Taiwan C3F8 Transfill Improvements Drive Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reductions
C3F8 is used by electronic device manufacturers as a chamber cleaning gas. As a supplier, we improved the process of transfilling product from large ISO containers into cylinders, which eliminated the use of a dry ice cold coil and also reduced residual product remaining in the ISO. The CGA recognized these efforts and the resulting decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.
Pasadena Plant Recognized for Safety by Union Pacific Railroad
For the third consecutive year, our Pasadena, Texas Chemicals plant was recognized by the Union Pacific Railroad as a safe shipper of hazardous materials and chemicals. Air Products was one of 58 winners recognized for safe loading practices and zero non-accident releases during last year.
Air Products Named to 100 Best Corporate Citizens List
Corporate Responsibility Magazine named Air Products to its 100 Best Corporate Citizens List for 2010, a top ranking of corporate responsibility leaders. Air Products was one of 100 companies selected from among the large-cap Russell 1000® based on more than 360 data points in seven categories: environment, climate change, human rights, philanthropy, employee relations, financial performance and governance.

Air Products Wins Prestigious Rushlight Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Award
Air Products received the prestigious Rushlight Hydrogen and Fuel Cells industry award for the Series 100 hydrogen fuelling station, which is prominent in the UK hydrogen fuelling landscape. The Rushlight Awards celebrate the leading environmental technologies and innovations by organizations throughout the UK and Ireland. The purpose is to promote what is happening in the world of hydrogen and fuel cells to the public and enable further development and funding to be granted toward reducing carbon emissions.

Air Products Named a Maplecroft Climate Innovation Indexes (CIIs) Leader
Air Products was named a Maplecroft Climate Innovation Indexes (CIIs) Leader, ranking 17th out of the 300 largest U.S. companies evaluated for their climate-related innovation and carbon management programs. The Maplecroft CIIs, calculated by Bloomberg and based upon evaluations by country and corporate risk intelligence firm Maplecroft, identify companies that embed innovation into their operations to better operate in changing policy environments, deal with increased investor scrutiny regarding future growth, and adapt to the physical impacts of climate change throughout their value chains.
