Vice President and Chief Technology Officer
Montgomery (Monty) Alger joined Air Products in February 2007 as vice president and chief technology officer with oversight responsibility for the company’s R&D activities.
Prior to joining Air Products, Dr. Alger spent 23 years with General Electric, where he most recently was general manager of technology for GE Advanced Materials (silicones and quartz) business, which became Momentive Performance Materials when Apollo Management, L.P. purchased it in late 2006.
Dr. Alger joined GE in 1984 at its Corporate Research Center, where he led technology development programs for GE Battery, Lighting, Appliances, and Plastics businesses through 1991. In 1992 he moved to GE Plastics Global Technology and had a number of product and process development roles. In 1998 he became manager of Engineering for GE Superabrasives and in 2000 led the launch of its e-Business website (AbrasivesNet.com). Dr. Alger returned to the Global Research Center in 2001 where he was responsible for Advanced Lexan® technology development. He moved to the GE Plastics Noryl® business as manager of Global Technology in 2002 before moving to the GE Advanced Materials business in 2005.
Dr. Alger was born in 1957 and is a native of Rumney, N.H. He received B.S. and M.S. degrees in chemical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1978, and a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1982.
Dr. Alger serves on the Chemical Engineering Advisory Councils at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, Lehigh University, Georgia Institute of Technology and the University of California-Santa Barbara. He also serves on the board of directors of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. Dr. Alger is a certified Six Sigma Master Black Belt.
