Breathe easier with helium from Air Products

Helium is key to minimizing breathing resistance, lowering decompression risk on long dives, and keeping a clear head on deep dives. In clinical settings, helium is used in unique blood gas mixtures to increase a patient's chances of survival. Air Products supplies on-spec helium and other breathing gases to commercial and military dive operations, professional dive stores and fill stations and hospitals around the world.

A depth of resources for a full range of dive operations

From scientific research to the pursuit of new offshore energy sources, exploration and mapping activities, the dive industry relies on Air Products to supply helium to help increase operational efficiencies and enhance safety. We provide helium, oxygen and nitrogen for:

  • Heliox to help eliminate nitrogen narcosis, reduce breathing resistance at depth, and shorten decompression obligations on sustained operations at depths from 150 feet to more than 2,000 feet. Used with small amounts of nitrogen, it can help to reduce the effects of high-pressure nervous syndrome (HPNS) on deep dives.

  • Heliair, consisting of oxygen, nitrogen and helium, is often used during the deep phase of dives carried out using technical diving techniques. Easily blended by adding helium to air, it has a 21:79 ratio of oxygen to nitrogen.

  • Nitrox, an oxygen-enriched air mixture, to aid in the reduction of decompression risk on dives shallower than 150 feet.

  • Trimix, a combination of oxygen, helium and nitrogen, used to reduce the disadvantages of breathing high partial pressures of nitrogen on technical dives from 150 to 330 feet.

We're committed to quality and safety.

We understand that breathing gas quality is critical, particularly when working with high partial pressures at depth. Our breathing-grade gases meet stringent quality requirements.

For reasons of safety, quality and regulatory compliance, Air Products recommends that only trained divers or technicians should blend trimix and other diving gases. Many industry professionals recommend using a decompression planning computer program for diving with helium.

Full range of supply options

As the world's largest producer and provider of helium, Air Products offers a variety of supply options for helium, oxygen and breathing gas mixtures, with volumes ranging from 3,450 scf to 62,400 scf. As an Air Products customer, you enjoy

Supply options include:

  • 8-tube modules

  • 25-tube skids

  • 16- and 25-cylinder packs

In fact, Air Products can supply a full range of breathing gases as well as other gases and chemicals for dive operations:

  • Argon as a drysuit inflation gas for added warmth

  • Helium and Oxygen for underwater welding

  • Air and carbon dioxide absorbents for decompression systems
