Various thermal and biochemical conversion technologies for bioenergy production require tight specifications for biomass feedstock particle size.
Air Products provides liquid nitrogen grinding systems that can freeze feedstock with ultracold nitrogen and then grind it to produce very fine, uniformly sized particles. The technology could be used to process biomass or waste that is fed to a fast pyrolysis unit, where particles traditionally need to be in the size range of a few millimeters.
