Hydrogen can be used to effectively reduce oxides without additional unwanted chemical species.
Oxygen is used to react with undesired elements to help reduce impurities. Using oxygen instead of air drives the reactions faster resulting in increased productivity. Oxygen can also be used under sub-stoichiometric conditions to partially combust a reducing gas (hydrogen or natural gas) enabling reduction reactions without substantial temperature loss.
Oxygen plants - Cryogenic
A cryogenic air separation plant is used to supply oxygen for iron/steel and non-ferrous metal production. Air Products works closely with the customer to integrate the air separation plant with the metal producers’ process to provide the most energy efficient and cost effective design.
