On October 13, 2010 Air Products announced its plans for the construction of a pipeline connecting its existing Louisiana and Texas hydrogen pipeline systems and creating the world’s largest hydrogen pipeline supply network. The investment demonstrates Air Products’ hydrogen market leadership and provides us a unique opportunity to utilize our expertise in project execution and commercial and asset management to deliver value and continuous improvement to our Gulf Coast hydrogen customers.

The project construction phase has reached the 100% completion mark and is currently onstream.

This year, Air Products was honored to win the Premier Project Award for Construction for our industry leading Gulf Coast Connection Project, a more than 180-mile long hydrogen pipeline connecting our Texas and Louisiana (U.S.) franchises. August 2012 Project Update
  • Mechanical construction is complete for the pipeline and compression stations.
  • Post construction surface clean-up activities are being completed.
  • The 183 miles of GCCP pipeline has been converted to and filled with product hydrogen.
  • The final commissioning and reliability testing of various operating systems is ongoing.
July 2012 Project Update
  • Construction staffing is currently ~225 people focusing on post construction cleanup.
  • Pipeline and compression systems are mechanically complete.
  • Start-up and commissioning of the pipeline and compression systems is scheduled for first half of August.

Key Project Milestone
  • The pipeline route selection process was completed in fall of 2009.
  • Right of way acquisition process commenced in January 2010.
  • Permit approval for the Texas construction received from Galveston District of the US Army Corp of Engineers in July 2011.
  • Permit approval for the Louisiana construction received from New Orleans District of the US Army Corp of Engineers in December 2011.
  • The pipeline route required right of way agreements for utilizing more than 1,000 parcels of property.
  • The project execution plan included the US Army Corp approval for a 150 acre wetland mitigation project to offset impacted wetland areas.
  • As of May 15th 2012, 95% of the pipe material has been installed and backfilled.
  • Compression systems are mechanically complete and commissioning is scheduled for late summer 2012.
  • Project has employed up to 900 people supporting field construction activities.
