Accelerating the Energy Transition

The World’s Future Depends on Low- and Zero-Carbon Solutions

We believe that hydrogen, the most plentiful of all the elements, will be the solution – the future of energy. We must act with a sense of resolve and urgency. Working in partnership, we are already creating a world built on hydrogen where hydrogen and fuel cell technology will play a central role in decarbonizing heavy-duty vehicles and industry. This journey is already well underway, with buses, trucks, and trains across the globe already being fueled with hydrogen produced, distributed and supplied by Air Products. It’s a future we believe in, and one which we are helping drive forward.

We have built a reputation for our innovative culture, operational excellence, and commitment to safety and the environment. Rising to the energy challenges that face our world today demands diverse thinking, applications and mega-project expertise, and a collaborative spirit.

We're the World's Largest Hydrogen Producer

Creating a cleaner future requires experience, investment, and innovation on a world-scale. At Air Products, we have the technology, the track record, the capital and the ambition to be a first-mover in pursuit of this goal. Together we are providing hydrogen solutions that address some of the world’s most significant energy and environmental challenges, moving us all toward a cleaner energy future.

Renewable hydrogen

Air Products is making significant investment in renewable hydrogen for the world. In addition, given the urgency of reaching net-zero emissions, blue hydrogen is also essential to a successful energy transition.

Carbon capture expertise

Air Products is a global leader in capturing CO₂ before it reaches the atmosphere. Our technology is built on more than 70 years’ experience, covering advanced CO₂ separation, purification and transportation.

Driving hydrogen energy forward

We work together with customers and countries, providing hydrogen solutions to support them on their sustainability journey. We partner with select industry experts and governments on large-scale solutions.

Green Hydrogen: Delivered at Scale

Air Products will supply carbon-free green hydrogen to power buses and trucks around the world, eliminating 3 million tons per year of CO₂ emissions, the equivalent of emissions from over 700,000 cars. The joint venture project in Saudi Arabia with NEOM and ACWA Power will be powered by four gigawatts of renewable power from solar, wind and storage, fueling the production of 650 tons per day of hydrogen by electrolysis using thyssenkrupp technology, nitrogen by air separation using Air Products technology, and 1.2 million tons per year of carbon-free ammonia using Haldor Topsoe technology.

Blue But Better

Our hydrogen energy complex in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada will make the area the center of western Canada’s and the Pacific Northwest's hydrogen economy. The complex marks a first in the wider use of hydrogen in Alberta, enabling the production of liquid hydrogen to be an emissions-free fuel in the transportation sector, and to generate clean electricity. Better yet, the combination of our advanced hydrogen technology, carbon capture and storage, and hydrogen-fueled power generation makes it possible to operate the facility with a net-zero carbon footprint.

Carbon Capture: Essential to the Energy Transition

Carbon capture is an essential element of the energy transition. Blue products provide needed clean energy solutions now, helping to transition into greener fuels while building green capacity and demand through the value chain. We have the real-world experience capturing CO₂ from gasifiers and hydrogen plants for use in enhanced oil recovery and permanent sequestration. We deploy these carbon capture technologies in new plants or by retrofitting existing ones.

The World's Largest Carbon Capture for Permanent Sequestration Project

Air Products will invest $4.5B to build-own-operate the world’s largest blue hydrogen production facility, producing over 750 MMSCFD of blue hydrogen in Louisiana, USA. A portion of the blue hydrogen will be compressed and supplied to customers by our U.S. Gulf Coast pipeline network; the balance will be used to make blue ammonia that will be transported around the world and converted back to blue hydrogen for transportation and other markets. The megaproject will also capture over five million metric tons per year of CO₂, making it the world's largest instance of CO₂ capture for permanent sequestration.

Energy Transition Leadership

Grounded in decades of history and global reach, we take our role in working towards a cleaner environment seriously. We use our technical expertise, proven technology, strong local knowledge, and established safety practices to innovate and constantly improve and expand hydrogen’s role in the energy transition.
